SKIN CARE TIPS: HEALTHY SKIN FOR AN HEALTHY LIFE
With summer in full-swing, we thought we’d put together a list of summer season skin tips to help you #beglowreous and out-shine the summer sun.
TIP #1 SUNSCREEN
Tip #1: If you’re planning on being outside for hours on end this summer (which we hope you are), make sure to use a sunscreen. A key tip is to remember that SPF (sun protection factor) references an estimation of how long you can stay in the sun without getting burned. An SPF of 30 means that you’re more protected from the sun for thirty times longer without burning than you would be without sunscreen.
TIP #2 WATERPROOF IS BETTER
Tip #2: Remember that sunscreens can wear off quickly, especially if they come in contact with water. Even most of the high quality waterproof sunscreens on the market are only effective for about 80 minutes, so make sure to reapply often and take breaks from your summer glowing. Also, use a broad spectrum protection sunscreen, which protects from both UVA and UVB (UVA is responsible for burning, and UVB is responsible for premature aging and potential skin cancer risk).
TIP #3 NON-COMEDOGENIC PRODUCTS
Tip #3: Summer’s hot and humid weather will make you sweat, which isn’t the best for your pores (especially when combined with oily products like sunscreens and moisturizers). Be sure to use non-comedogenic products (products that are specifically formulated to not cause blocked pores) when caring for your skin this summer. Sweat, dirt, and oil can lead to blemishes - and that’s not glowreous!
TIP #4 MOISTURIZE
Tip #4: With the prior point in mind, DO make sure that you’re moisturizing! A solid moisturizing routine can do wonders for your complexion, and dry skin can be caused by any number of summer-related activities (chlorine at the pool, saltwater, etc). Keep your skin happy and apply a light moisturizer to protect it from summertime drying – you’ll be glad you did!
TIP #5 EXFOLIATE
Tip# 5: Lastly, make sure you exfoliate, but at the right times! Gentle dermal exfoliation will help keep your pores clog-free, but don’t go overboard. Remember that exfoliation removes dead skin cells and reveals new skin, which can be sensitive and at-risk for sunburning. Wait until the evening to exfoliate, or on days when you’re not heading straight to the shower, beach, or pool.
